Conmen

Were they conmen or govt spies? Nobody knows for certain.

4 suspected conmen who came to sell medicine have been caught in Mezoma village, Nagaland (northeast India), on 1 June, 2018. The four have been handed over to Zubza police station. And that's according to the mainstream media.

However,

There's another version to the story

According to the message circulating in the social media, 3 suspected conmen who came from mainland India to the indigenous village have been caught with many things like surgical instruments and illegal drugs which when consumed can make the victim unconscious. The suspects have forced a local girl to undergo a medical check up. Upon sensing the danger, the girl cried for help and the village folk immediately arrived on the scene to rescue her. The village folk then tried the medicine of the suspected conmen on two of the three suspects and both fell unconscious.

However, according to one local, the version of the story circulating in the social media was an exageration and not wholly true, while acknowleding that 4 suspects (not 3) who came in the guise of medical professionals have been detained and handed over to the police.

Some imaginative people, on their part, are of the opinion that the four strangers could well be govt spies who have been sent out into the indigenous areas for intelligence gathering purposes. Whatever may be the case, the distrust that exists between the indigenous and the govt can't be denied.

The resistance movement of the indigenous continues to this day as they deem the govt of India as a colonial power. They are the first resistance in India and their political issue predates the Kashmir issue.
