Malaria as we know still remain the culprit to many deaths in Africa especially west africa.
This deadly disease is caused by a protozoa with the generic name Plasmodium.there are about five different species namely Plasmodium falciparum,Plasmodium viva,Plasmodium ovale,Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium knowlesi.
Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for majority of malaria cases as they are the most common species i sub Sahara africa
Poorly treated malaria has resulted in so many deaths due to the complications of malaria example
is cerebral malaria
These protozoa are transmitted through the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito.
Anopheles mosquito are commonly found in stagnant water,dirty environment.
That is why the students of pharmacy in university of benin Nigeria has decided to sensitive the students residing in the hostels about malaria and prophylactic measures while also performing free malaria test and counseling to others.
This post is to inform and solicit for ideas to make this campaign successful,educative and far reaching to help others prevent malaria.
