Cryptogirls Talk: Taking Up The Cudgels For The Ladies Of Steem 💛

A woman with a voice, by definition, is a strong woman. - Melinda Gates

Looking around on planet Steem I can actually see a lot of them..

Inspired by @theaudgirl's recent article Why I Think More People (Especially Women) Need to Tune into the Crypto Convo, I thought it could be a nice move to dedicate my latest milestone - hitting the reputation of 72 - yay! - to the ladies of Steem.

I'm not a huge fan of gender equality debates and women's quota, since I believe it condemns women to become just numbers where they actually should be respected for what they accomplish as human beings.

Here's to the unimportance of gender and the beauty of cryptogirls! :-)

@surfermarly admitting to her geekiness

Breaking the rules

Women are underrepresented in the crypto world in general, but Steem could be an exception from the rule.

While it is common knowledge that the tech industry has always had a lack of women, cryptocurrency seems to be male-dominated right from its roots. (...) Due to its origins of being male-dominated, the public perception of crypto-assets and Blockchain software continues to be that of an industry that is unappealing, and even unviable, for women. At the same time, cryptocurrencies and blockchain are strongly driven by coders, a profession that is more often than not considered to be male-driven. - Forbes

Steem can make the difference being the ideal gateway for non-crypto people into digital currencies!

While investing, trading, coding and mining are per se masculine domains, social media has a high attraction for female users. Communication is a field where a lot of women feel safe at, and that's reflected in the numbers.

As @theaudgirl perfecly investigated, only 5% to 7% of all cryptocurrency users are women. Now the fact that many applications we use to communicate with the Steem blockchain are social media apps, has a significant impact on these numbers.

Women are in the lead when it comes to using social media apps:

That's why we actually don't even need a debate about gender equality on Steem :-)

As long as we all agree on the fact that both men and women are equally respected content creators, we won't have any trouble in bringing enough ladies on the blockchain.

In other words (quote from the movie 'Jurassic Park'):

Life will find a way.

Girls will find a way, and they already do.

Take a look at yesterday's trending posts on dtube.video - I'd say we're on a par!

@dtube rankings: 3 girls of 4 in top videos and 2 of 4 in most fav videos

Why not use our 'secret weapon'?

To be honest, I have no problem in admitting that girls have certain advantages when it comes to present themselves in front of the camera.

Especially in a rather male dominated environment, an attractive appearance that enwraps a smart message is definitely a plus, and I think we should all be fine with that.

The fact that a lot of women are conquering the high rep positions on Steem, is evidence enough that we have a brain that works alright. From my personal point of view there is no need to especially underline that fact :-)

@surfermarly loving her Boomerang app

So here I am winking at my rep 72, happily striving for 73 :-)

Ladies of Steem, this one is for you:

Be cool, be smart, be pretty, be whatever you wanna be - there's no need to talk about gender when we can talk about so many other things. Go for it!

Much love,
Marly -
