Stretching my sketching muscles!

10:00p.m., so much earlier to posting than usual. We’re in a tornado warning in Minneapolis, which is beyond rare considering we just got 10” a snow days earlier. After what recently happened in Kentucky, though, I decided to stay home rather than work at @caffetto with my new Tesla under the 100 year old trees throughout uptown. The day was filled with errands, and I did make kickboxing. I needed that, even though I had to drag myself to the gym. All in all, not a bad day. It’ll probably be an early night.

I’m ramping up to some illustration for Mirrorpool’s first big client. We have a couple of projects we’re developing internally, but this first is a bit of a crossover from @facingsofficial. We’re all involved in this upcoming release as partners with a household IP synonymous with classic monster movies. That’s all I can reveal at this point, but rest assured, @swarddraws and I are stoked to begin work. I’ve been revisiting old illustration from 2019 and 2020, like this sketch I did when I met @veryspider in Melbourne.

One of the breaking points for me at @facingsofficial was that I never got to draw. I was management and as such, I oversaw the art department, which introduced to the satisfaction that comes with seeing a team of talented creatives bring something to life, but there was very little personal fulfillment in creating as an individual. With the Mirrorpool venture, I’ll be getting back to that, and other expressions of my creativity, like writing, photography, video editing and story telling in general.

Myself, @swarddraws and @ghostfish are going to be taking a two day trip to Isabella, MN as a writing retreat. There’s a cabin there. No heat, no running water. We’re all looking for a break after Christmas and this should be just what we need. @ghostfish and I are looking forward to discussing a Copper Coins NFT release, or potentially even Shibboleth; our Lovecraftian horror novella, interpreted as a digital asset collectible card set. @swarddraws and I have a lot to talk about as far as Mirrorpool structure.

Overall, I’m looking forward to getting back to what brought me to the blockchain in the first place, and that’s art. As grateful as I am for the opportunity to lead a team of creatives to product launches, I’ve been dying to get back to these releases myself as an, “in the trenches”, artist. Just like kickboxing, I need to stretch before a grueling 45 minute heavy bag session, so I’ll be stretching the illustration muscles over these next couple of weeks as we break ground on all of these upcoming projects.
