The Church Of The Dead

I have always referred to stories based around the Hulk as horror genre tales and now The Incredible Hulk #3, or legacy #784 if you count like I do, brings us a full-fledged horror story with "That Old-Time Religion: Part Two." Phillip Kennedy Johnson is responsible for this zombies-go-to-church fear fest, while Nic Klein and Matthew Wilson depict the action very darkly within the pages of this issue. The Green Monster, and not the Fenway Park kind, is beginning to take control of this body that he stole from Bruce Banner. The two entities inside this man-creature don't get along.

A young girl known as Charlie has been tagging along with Banner, much to his dismay. She feels this is a better option than staying at her abusive home. Many zombie films feature a church at times, including The Walking Dead, but this one isn't being run by Father Gabriel and it is already filled with zombies. The undead is actually singing "To Him Be The Glory" as they stand in worship to Brother Deep. The Hulk entered the picture after Banner was stabbed in a sacrificial attempt.

The Eldest hopes to bring down the green guy by calling out all monsters on Earth. This is to ultimately to bring him face-to-face with the Mother of Horrors. Many panels are devoted to a battle of monstrous proportions and it isn't until the Hulk witnesses Charlie squash a zombie head that he decides to stop fighting her in her effort to follow him. But there is one big rule: "Don't Trust Banner!" A nice little backstory is contained at the end explaining the deal with the One Above All and the entrance of the Mother of Horrors. Now, let's keep this storyline going as we approach Halloween!
