Shang-Chi Begins New Era

With the Shang-Chi movie expected to hit theaters next month, it is not surprising that Marvel Comics decided to begin a new era for the comic series by having issue 127 restart as number 1. It appears that this human weapon is going to be pitted against various superheroes within the Marvel Universe. This isn't because he is a bad guy, but more that he is just misunderstood.

Trained by his father, Shang-Chi now heads his father's evil organization, the Five Weapons Society. Teaming with his siblings, Chi is trying to wipe out any evil elements of the organization. This task is becoming very difficult as his sister Esme wants to achieve this objective by killing all whom she feels disrespect her family.

While checking out a "Traditional Chinese Medicine Shop," Spider-Man offers his help and is reluctantly allowed to tag along. In the process, King Wild Man transforms Spider-Man temporarily into a much stronger creature to battle Shang-Chi. Obviously, the proprietor's master Zheng Zu takes offense at Chi's attempt to bring all the businesses under the Five Weapons Society to legit operations.

I bought this book containing Gene Luen Yang's story to obtain some background information on this character that will be debuting on the big screen soon. Spider-Man has trained under Shang-Chi in the past when he lost his Spider-Sense. Dike Ruan did an excellent job with bringing the martial arts action to life within the pages of this book. Now all I need to do is see if I can find some Yeren Root!
