The Celosia Plumosa is a herbaceous flower. This is an eye-catching plant with its continuous feathery, bright coloured plumes in your garden (beds and borders), window boxes, containers and baskets. They are native to Asia and Africa. In Greek the word “Celosia” means “burning”, this red flower looks like it is on fire.

They are only perennial in tropical areas, and in the other regions, they flower from spring till autumn. These inflorescent showy flowers come in vibrant colours of flame red, yellow, orange and pink. The blossoms have tons of tiny little flowers each. They have numerous seeds and will keep sprouting in your garden on their own.

These beauties thrive in full sun, heat (temperatures from 14°C and warmer), and well-drained moist soil which is rich in organic matter (pH6). They need to be fertilized at least once a month.

You can grow them from seeds which you need to plant just before spring. Germination will take about 10-14 days if kept at a temperature ranging from 22°C to 26°C, and humidity levels of 90%.
