Tokyo coldest its been in 48 years

Tokyo isn't the place in Japan typically to see snowfall every winter but they did get hit with a significant snowstorm this year. The province in Japan that typically sees the most cold and heavy snowfalls is Hokkaido and they this time they weren't alone. The typical overnight low for Tokyo this time of year is right around the freezing mark of 32F. This time on January 22 the temperature dropped down to 25F making it the coldest Tokyo has gotten in 48 years.

Hokkaido on the other hand was brutally cold as well temperatures got down to a bone chilling -31C which is -24F. Tokyo also recieved it's biggest snowfall in 4 years at around 9 inches of snow. Needless to say this gave kids a rare snow day in Tokyo. Other parts of Japan like Honshu recieved heavier snowfall, they recieved around 19 inches in spots literally burying cars.

With all this snow and cold there is the downside of accidents. Tokyo's ambulance service had it's busiest day since the 1930s responding to over 2600 calls. Unfortunately 180 people have been injured as a result of this storm. Enjoy the YouTube videos of the storm in the link below.
