Interesting facts about Harbin city and some old postcards

Harbin (chinese: 哈尔滨) is a city in northeastern China. In 2010 the population was 5 282 093. City of Harbin was founded by a Pole by Ing. Adam Szydłowski in 1898 during the construction of the East China Railway. He also became first president of Harbin. In Harbin, Poles were hired to build railways and then to operate it. It is estimated that at least 10,000 of Poles lived here. In Harbin there were Polish schools, churches and press. There was also a Polish consulate. To this day, there is a Harbin brewery, founded in 1900 by Jan Wróblewski. In addition, it is the oldest Chinese brewery!

I write about it, because my grandmother came from Harbin and when she moved to Poland, she brought some postcards from around 1920, which I want to share with you :)
