Here is my gift: これが私の戴きものです:
Yes, this is a Stollen but made in Japan.
When I was a 20's, I was a student of Vocational school related to PC, and I met a man who is late 50's who just quit his job and try to learn about new technology for his second life. He once was an famous advertising agency salesman, so he treated his clients very nice to go great restaurants or send them some gifts or... it was kind of a great economic era for Japanese society. So anyway I learned a lot from his experiences and enjoyed talking with him everyday also he become to interested in my weaving work and cheers me up for around 15 years since then.
そう、シュトーレンです。が、日本国産シュトーレンなんです。
20代の頃に職業訓練校に通ってたんですが、同級生に早期退職して第二の人生を迎えるためにと通うオジ様がいらっしゃって、仲良くして戴くようになりました。どうも大手広告代理店でバリバリの営業をしておられた方で、その後何度か北新地に社会勉強に連れて行って下さったり、それまで狭い世の中しか知らなかった私に未知の世界を見せて下さった方でもあります。それ以来ずっと、機織りの活動を応援して下さっています。
For this reason, he is exceptionally good at entertaining people, he bake handmade Stollen for his friends every winter time and he sends it to me as well at every December before Xmas.
Since he knows what is a great food from his experience, he got a cooking licence to make delicious food by himself and his family when he was 40's. So of course he pickles dried fruits with rum by himself for this Stollen.
It has been almost 10 years since he started sending it to me, and every year it has been improving... I'm really happy to get one as a Xmas gift... this is very sweet. By the way it arrives before Christmas in general, so I am ... Reimport to Berlin? It is a little funny because I bring a Stollen from Japan to Berlin and enjoy this gift with my partner and friends in Germany :)
そんな訳で人をもてなすことが抜群に上手なこの方。毎年、決まった人に手作りのシュトーレンをプレゼントしていて、私も毎年そのご相伴に預かっています。お鮨が好きすぎて調理師免許まで取って自分で魚を〆たりする人なので、当然ドライフルーツのラム漬けから手作りです。もうそんじょそこらのシュトーレンは戴けません。そんな訳でもう10年近く毎年送って下さっているのですが、大体クリスマス前に届きますので、このシュトーレンを私は…ベルリンへ逆輸入？して持参して堪能しているからちょっと面白いのです。
A lovely box is carefully wrapped by himself every year, and a heartfelt letter is also very touching to me.
毎年、ファンシーな箱をご自分で丁寧に包まれて、心のこもった手紙も添えられています。
One is with rum and the other is without rum. So I bring one without rum to my parents home to enjoy it together and I bring other one to Berlin. I didn't have this idea, but my partner let me know eating slice it and bake with oven a bit and put butter on it... which is the best way to eat this I think. My friend sends this just after he baked it but he says it's better to eat this from 7-10 days later so I'm following his advice :)
片方がラム入り、片方はラム無しですので、毎年ひとつは実家へ持参して、もうひとつはベルリンで相方と一緒に戴きます。日本にいる時はあまり思いつかなかったんですが、スライスしてトースターで焼いてバターを乗せて戴くともう格別です。焼いてから直ぐ送って下さるのですが、1週間〜10日程度経った頃が一番食べごろなんだそうです。

It’s too late Stollen. 今更、シュートレン。
I feel sorry I can't do anything for him as he does to me, but what I can do for now is just continue my activities... Such a support is pushing me up and bring me a big motivation even my activity doesn't make any financial profit.
I just sent him a weaving report just published before December, all I can do now is just like this... and I feel that my work is kind of mission to pass from previous generation to next generation. I was going to write about this gift some day, so I'm happy to join this challenge :)
いつも戴いてばかりで申し訳なく思うんですが、こういう支援を下さる人がいるからこそ、自分の活動を続けられていると思いますし、成果を挙げて見て頂かなくてはという使命感のようなものを感じているのだと思います。ちょうどこのシュトーレンの記事を書きたかったので書くことができて嬉しく思います。
