Everyone of us have our own righteousness by our own understanding, even though we are in the narrow and unclean way
but we still believe that we are in a right path or we are righteous. But when we accept Jesus Christ in our life, we need to trade in all our self-righteousness,our external morals,good works and religious rituals, so that our righteousness be granted to Him when we believe in Christ Jesus.
To know Jesus Christ is to have His righteousness, His Holiness, and His virtue imputed to us which makes us right before God's eyes. Like Apostle Paul in his previous life. He tried to attain salvation by strict adherence of the law. He is faithful in obeying the law of Jews. He is the perfect example as a follower of law in their times.

When Apostle Paul was confronted by the wondrous reality of Christ, He was ready to trade in all corruptible righteousness. He is willing to lose the thin and fading robe of his reputation. And Apostle Paul knew that in Christ Jesus he gain the splendid and incorruptible robe of right righteousness of Christ. This is the greatest of all the benefits it secure our standing before God. There are many people find their own way to incorruptible rope but out of the darkness there is hope in God's righteousness. We can find it to the one who died for us, the one who is perfect in His work. Which satisfies God's justice.
