[TABLETOP] Chess for three - interesting brain-twisting game for those, who's already bored with classic chess [GAME]

Recently I've been visited by my friends - Mike and Nikita. They brought a new chess board, this one:

CF31

The game looked strange, and a little bit unfinished, but it wasn't the case - the case was that I played triple chess first time in my life! In real life, because I'd already played chess for three on the Android phone and via internet a little.

CF32

The rules was 90% like classic chess, but with several differences on trajectories, and one of the most hard moments of this game is the center of the field. Also, you have to keep in mind, that those, who put a checkmate to other player, gets his chess figures. So his winning options rises if he gets this huge bonus!

CF33

That's why this game is really unpredictable and very interesting. The players might unite and create an alliance for some time, let each other pass away or help to protect some figures, etc. But while helping others you might make the game worser for yourself, because, if other side make chessmate for your opponent, then this side gets his chess figures. But you can also re-make the checkmate, and then the figures will become yours. So, this is like chess with the new dimension, where there are 3rd player like 3rd dimension.

We played twice, while I was having a thought that we should take colorful markers and make the chess deck look more pretty and contract. Especially because you can't always clearly see where your figures are staying, if you play with large ones. But we cannot finish the board because I had no colorful markers at home except black one...

CF34

However, we solved the problem of missing colorful markers by going to Metro Cash & Carry shop. Cheap & neat :D

CF35

Someone did finished coloring fast, while others gained enjoy from the process, stretching it =)

Results

CF36

In my opinion, result looked very good. A way better than it was in the beginning. Now this cardboard chess became an art-object!

CF37

After we finished coloring the board and played several times with "traditional" 3-player chess rules, we thought, that we could manage to make also other rules. One of the options was playing with two person on the board for three persons. From this point, you could put chess figures in a classic way for three-player chess and go on playing with additional side, but this side is not really often used. So we should either change the start points of the fugures ("respawn points"), or we could add some chess figures so each player could play with twice more figures. This was extreme option:

CF38

It has a harder rules of using pawns - because there are two different types of pawns, the small one and large ones. The small ones goes by diagonal, but hits to the near two spots. Quite unusual and frustrating sometimes.

Other options

Also, there are many other popular and not-so-popular types of chess - what humanity could ever invented in it's long history. I would especially tell you about these:

  • 4-player chess
  • 4-player chess with fortress (castle)
  • 6-player chess

Other

Also I'd played Game of Thrones a little

I've never watched (and never wanted to!) watch this series, but a friend of mine called me to play tabletop "Game of Thrones". Why not? If you like me to tell more about this game, please comment below the article.
