The making of posts by authors and the engagement of authors in other authors post is how the Steemit community is being sustained.
And like we already know, the growth of this community is dependent on the engagement of authors in the community.
Let's assume you were surfing through posts in the Steemit community and you find a post with a catchy title that draws your attention, you clicked on it and after reading it you like it and want to reward the author for the good work he have done. You can decide to do 1, 2 or even all of the following.
1. Upvote the post.
2. Resteem the post.
3. Follow the author.

Now imagine a whale like @ned, @blocktrades etc. is surfing the through the community and finds your post interesting and dropped a comment asking you to choose between.

I'm certain that this is what most of us would go for. Let's say the upvote is at it's full percentage%. It'll worth about $500-$1500, WOW! 😮 That's a huge impact, isn't it? OK let's assume you choose the upvote and get about $1000. That's a one time reward and that's fine.

RESTEEM:
Although the outcome for resteem isn't guaranteed as the worth is dependent on the number of active follower the resteemer have, and also the steem power of the resteemer's followers. But I still think the probability of getting over $1000 is higher. Here's my reason a whale is prone to have lots of followers, with a good amount-able steem power. And if your post is really interesting as stated previously. You'll definitely get more resteems which is equivalent to more views, that will probably give birth to upvotes that will worth more than the whales upvote.

FOLLOW:
The idea behind the follow is that all of the authors post shows up in his/her follower's feed. So if you choose follow, and keep up with the good work. You'll definitely get more than a one-time upvote.
