Last few days there has been talk again about censorship resistant platforms and freedom of speech online due to the new Twitter competitor popping up, called Threads, coming from META and the Zuckster.
A bit of drama happened when Space Karen apparently threatened META with a lawsuit for hiring the programmers that were fired from Twitter.
When Elon fires you, you're not supposed to get another job that you're most qualified for.
Considering that Threads is pretty barebones, Twitter opensourced some of their code, that they still hit 50 million downloads in a matter of days and that there is basically no way for anyone to tell these employees actually revealed any "trade secrets" this lawsuit threat, to me looks pretty much like this:
My favorite discussion right now under those tweets are the right wingers, grifters and conspiracy nuts fondling Elons nuts proclaiming Twitter the one true free speech platform.
To that I recall tweets hidden via governmental order and accounts not visible to me in the EU. Twitter being unavailable to certain countries during elections... etc.
I guess, if the government tells you to censor content its not really censorship. (Right? Hmm)
Whats even funnier is when the "REAL" free speech crowd chips in. I mean the extremists.
Hmm. I guess its not censorship not showing on your platform the things you dislike.
Aside the fact that these guys are scum, even they have a very loose view of what censorship is.
Speech controlled by the specific worldview of the platform owner doesnt really yell "free speech!" to me.
Conclusion:
So what can we conclude from all this:
- Hiding or removing content the government tells you to hide is not CENSORSHIP.
- Hiding or removing content that is mean and hurts peoples feelings is not CENSORSHIP.
- Hiding or removing content that disagrees with your ideology is not CENSORSHIP.
I have to conclude based on the information I gathered from Space Karen, a Holocaust denier and a soulless robot that CENSORSHIP, indeed, does not exist.
Nothing is censorship and everyone that claims their platform offers free speech is telling the truth.
Even when theyre obviously lying.
Especially when theyre obviously lying...
