Interview: Tari Labs' Riccardo "Fluffy Pony" Spagni and Cayle Sharrock

In the midst of the Mimble Wimble rage, when even some of the most reputed Bitcoin maximalists show their appreciation for this new cypherpunk protocol, Riccardo "Fluffy Pony" Spagni has reminded us all that a Monero sidechain implementation of MW has been in development for quite a few months.

In order to better explain what's going on with this adapted implementation of Tom Elvis Jedusor's, a special interview was planned. And as a way of taking advantage of this opportunity, other questions have been asked about the goals and projects of Tari, the need for privacy, and the underlying philosophy of private internet money.

The result is a delightful 47-minute interview which allows the two Tari developers to present their ideas, breakthroughs, and expectations. As you're about to see, the ideas are balanced, thoughtful in regards to all sides involved in the debate, rather diplomatic and void of sensationalism. Mimble Wimble doesn't get treated as a revolutionary invention that will overthrow the current hierarchy of privacy coins, Monero isn't a mean to justify criminal activities, the purpose of cryptocurrencies is not to ease tax evasion, and even big traditional companies can benefit from the Tari developments by tokenizing some assets.

What you are about to encounter during the interview is a more moderate side of the cypherpunk ethos, that doesn't necessarily have to be boring. While Tari's technology can help you transfer your Candy Crush coins into the Fortnite in-game currency, privacy coins can also coexist with the current governmental structures without causing revolutions or shifting the power dynamics. More privacy means more freedom and autonomy, but not an encouragement of criminal acts.

This rather philosophical idea can be found in the last part of the video, where ideas beyond the current blockchain implementations get presented in clear analogies and with good examples. Cayle Sharrock gets to mention about the nature of privacy as an element that can become a norm without major disruptions, while Fluffy Pony expresses his view on the act of governing human societies. Ultimately, the consensus is that the world needs more privacy, regular citizens need to understand that pulling the drapes both in the shower and while making money transfers should be the norm and not the exception, and the efforts for more liberty should be extended beyond the scope of cryptocurrencies.

Compared to the previous interview involving Riccardo "Fluffy Pony" Spagni, this one contains many more views and opinions on ongoing projects and fewer personal notes. So if you want to get a better perspective on the thoughts of one of the most influential men in crypto, then you should watch both.
