The Alfa Romeo Carabo is a concept car that was first shown at the 1968 Paris Motor Show.
It was designed by Marcello Gandini for the Bertone design studio. The name “Carabo” comes from the Carabidae beetles, which inspired the car’s iridescent green and orange coloring.
The Carabo started life as an Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, which was designed by Franco Scaglione of Carrozzeria Marazzi and debuted in 1967 with a curvaceous body and butterfly doors. Only 18 chassis were built, but not all of them were finished with Scaglione’s beautiful bodies.
A unique opportunity to show off the Alfa Romeo Carabo during Milan Design Week was the inauguration of the new Larusmiani boutique, a historic brand and hero of more than a century of Milanese elegance and "Made in Italy" from the MonteNapoleone district.
The new Larusmiani boutique was designed in collaboration with the famous architect Benedetto Camerana, who in 2015 was the protagonist of the renovation of the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, where Carabo is usually exhibited.
These concept car, in addition to embellishing the inauguration of the new boutique, is the first car to take part in The Automotive Gallery project: a permanent exhibition space inside the store, dedicated to the automotive world. The godmother of this Milanese project could only be Alfa Romeo
