MOT day tomorrow Lights, Camera ...

Eek it's MOT day in just over 24 hours, incase you're unfamiliar, this is annual test that checks whether your vehicle is roadworthy, they check everything from the lights to the structural integrity of the chassis.

Now to the title, Lights - last week Ben attended a local show Total Retro and whilst there bumped into Quirky Classics a Mercedes Benz breaker who just happened to have pretty much all the parts we needed to get the C124 through the test.

Dorothy has always had a chipped headlamp and cracked indicator and after last years DVSA overhaul, we thought it prudent to replace any even questionable parts as well as clean her, that always seems to help and shows you look after your car.

Today was the day, we started by cleaning the lenses and sorting out the tools we'd need and then headed to our garage, we found a handy guide on Youtube, this also meant we didn't have to record a guide.

Daimler Benz make it rather easy to remove a headlamp, disconnect plugs etc, remove 3 bolts one clip and the damaged indicator which clips in and out.

When replacing the glass we recommend removing the full housing, even if it's just the glass that's required - the hardest part is removing the glass from the unit.

Once out we cleaned up the area and headlamp reflectors with glass polish and Grime Wipes, as you can see from the Short we filmed.

We fitted the the glass which was challenging due to the pressure you had to apply to refit it behind the clips, Incredible Hulk strength is advisable.

The headlamp and indicator were then fitted and everything reconnected, we tested it all and everything was ship shape.

PS the garage door collapsed but Dorothy's bonnet and star caught it and slowed it down, meaning Ben could catch it with his shoulder, he was pinned for a few minutes until I hulked out and lifted the door, grrr arg. He's fine by the way.

Tomorrow a quick clean, windows polished and wheels too, then off for her MOT.
