Intro
See this link for Part 1 and also Part 2 here. Today is the 3rd installment, there may be one more bonus; there was a lot to see and many more images I haven't used. Today's part is mostly in the captions, I've written a little for each photo and some more words in between. The photos were all taken on an iPhone XS then edited on Adobe (and the excellent free irfanview app for batches and resizing especially). I look forwards to bringing a lot more auto related content to this site and blog soon!
Today's post is self explanatory, photos I captured of Americana present at the last Car on The Beach classics show in Pattaya, Chonburi, Thailand.
Mustang Mach 1
Sharknose ... the Mach 1 Mustang face means business.
Kicking off was this super looking classic Mustang. Ford's 1960's masterpiece of the everyman's sports car which could be affordable and used everyday. However the Mach 1 version )if this is the real thing) was a real muscle car coming highly tuned from the showroom.
Pretty neat and legit looking Mach 1. One of the prettiest on show.
Nice and low at this angle shows off the alloy wheels, which are very suited to the car and stylish. The paint is very smooth and clean looking. As if it's still wet!
I like the blacked out details and quad pipes. Some slight resto-modding evident here.
I love the look of those 3 lozenge lights and the 4 exhaust pipes. The rear slats and other black detailing gives a certain menace, and sense of purpose. The grand prix white stripes then set it all off, like a final decoration on the cake.
The original Mustang, a favorite of many. Here in Mach 1 guise.
This car was in outstanding restored condition, with very nice paintwork.
Mad Max Jeep
Yep, it is an old Willy's Jeep, converted to ride low! What a fetching machine.
Yes, it's a Jeep! Somehow! What a wild looking thing. Actually I've seen these around Thailand before at shows like these. It's something you can buy if you know where to look. I believe they're made from old Willy's Jeeps and there used to be a lot of them laying around in Thailand following the Vietnam war and even WWII prior. Now some of them get resurrected as these creations.
Front of what was a Jeep. Perhaps still is, they sure look funny this lowered!
Those Jeeps sure look funky. Definitely not for the shy!
Low-Rider
Now for something completely different. This low rider, as long as a bus ... had all the gadgets and tricks.
Certainly has the look
All the sound and suspension gear being shown off in the trunk.
Completely covered in custom hand painted graphics, candy colors and matching throughout. An absolute masterpiece of Americana, this car certainly got plenty of attention at the show. Check out the interior shots below.
They really went to town on this one
Inside, the details continue with the painted dashboard and much more. Notice the matching painted steering wheel.
Most of what is visible here is the hydraulics plumbing and electrical wiring for this cars crazy Snoop Doggy style bouncing suspension.
In the trunk, there is a complex array of wires and components laid out neatly. There is the compressors and hydraulics for raising and lowering the car, plus the monster sound system.
Promo Girls
No Thai car show is ever complete without having ladies who work as 'pretties' or promotional / sales girls at different events. Most of them will have come from agencies, hired out by smaller brands for shows, exhibitions, and corporate events. unless the company is large enough, some have their own team of them. You wouldn't exactly call it an equal opportunities role ... they are essentially paid to be friendly eye candy! Many will stop to take photos of them, and the brand gets in all those social media posts. Is it politically correct? hahaha ...
Thai ladies working as promo girls for a brand of window tinting films which were exhibiting at the show.
Modern Muscle
Nice example of the venerable Lexus LX/Land Cruiser in the background, also housing a big V8. Perhaps not American, but not looking even a bit out of place with them today. The bumblebee Mustang, looked very pumped and ready to dazzle the streets.
The new Mustang which is also available in Thailand (if you can afford the luxury tax).
Modern Americana ... in matching paintwork.
More modern Americana was on show, above a matching purple reflective pair, one Chevrolet Camaro, and another Mustang. I don't know about you, however all the cars over 30 years old (classics) had a lot more interest to me on this day. Hoping I'll get to see some nice examples inside and out of brand new models at the upcoming Bangkok IMS.
Apache
No, not the website server engine or the traditional native Americans. The Chevrolet truck from back in the 1950s, bought up to date with modern tech and hand-built techniques. The following were impressive, and I think a lot of the photos tell more than I could.
They made a great contrasting pair.
Extremely nicely put together all around
Who doesn't love a nice set of whitewall tires, also! Win for that, not a detail left out.
The great big badge and font is awesome
It's almost too 'iconic' for words, you can see what it is immediately. A big ol' American truck from the 50's. However maybe with a few tweaks ....
Blue or Red?
Take the Red Apache or the Blue Apache ?
Note the wooden decking on the rear floor, which can be raised to access the chassis components.
Under the hood of the Chevy trucks, fully overhauled V8 engines.
Above, a bit of a giveaway. It's still a Chevy engine, but something from a much more powerful muscle car such as the Camaro. Going by the air filter it's carburetor, thus an older engine. This is most certainly a fine hot rod.
Cool face.
A nice appearance by a couple of these restomod trucks.
The Wrap Up
I trust you enjoyed this post, and all the photos. From all 3 parts, we got to see the variety of an amazing vehicle scene and customization skills that exist in Thailand nowadays. It'll be awesome to bring you more, with addition of video soon. Thanks for new followers and readers, it's great to see them coming as I get active with the posts. Tomorrow, we're going to wrap up the rest of this show before moving further back in time to British Classics and Steam Rollers from England. There's a lot to come, and a lot of content ready to go.
