One of Nigeria’s Caf Confederation Cup campaigners Akwa United jetted out to Sudan to honour the Caf Confederation Cup play-off against host, Al Hilal.

Ahead of Sunday’s continental engagement, the Promise keepers left the shores of Nigeria and landed in Sudan on Thursday to engage their host in the first leg clash.

A 19-man squad led by Coach Abdu Maikaba left Lagos on Wednesday as they hope to put up a good showing in Sudan and take back home valuable points thereby securing play-off spot in the Caf Inter-club competition.

Akwa United boarded an Ethiopia Airline plane from where they will get a connecting flight to Sudan for the first leg of the two-legged match.

Nigeria’s three other continental representatives, Enyimba FC, Plateau United, and Lagos-based MFM FC will also be in action this weekend with only Plateau United playing the first leg of their Caf tie at home.

Before advancing to this stage, the Promise Keepers had edged past the ‘Hawks’ from Gambia and Al Ittihad from Libya in the first and second round of the competition.

Akwa United suffered a defeat in the domestic league, NPFL as they lost at Katsina to Katsina United as the duo, Martins Usule and Destiny Ashadi ensured the Uyo-based club suffered their fourth league defeat of the season.

But the side is poised to amass the available points possible in Sudan in two days time as they won’t leave any stone unturned in a bid to return home victorious.
