Lately I did see more and more people talking about the Ginabot, so it was time for a little investigation about it! It is as great as people were telling or is it just another bot!
To spare you 5 minutes of reading: Hell yes it is great! I am not using it for 2 weeks and already can't miss it!

What is the Ginabot?

Well the ginabot is a bot which sniffs the steem blockchain, digging up interesting information about what is happening. The best way to describe it is that it is a great notification bot!
Yes some of these notifications are also available via the busy.org frontend but it can do so much more.
I wrote that I did loose 2 big followers. How did I knew this, not because I am keeping track of the people who are following me. Gina just told me. Just like she tells me, when someone start to follow me, upvotes my post, downvotes my post, when I do get mentioned in a post and so on...
I could say that the list is endless but let's be honest it isn't!

The Ginabot is build by @neander-squirrel, which is also very responsive on the Gina Discord channel. If you have any questions, you can just ask. He or the community are always glad to help you out!

How to set it up?

Well first you need to have an account on Discord. Once this is in place you can go to the Minnow Power Discord channel via this: https://discord.gg/gQesUE9

The first things you have to do it is to register your steem account.
For this you just type: ..reg
So for me this would be: ..reg fullcoverbetting

The bot will acknowledge this and will ask you to send 0.001 SBD or Steem to @ginabot.
Don't worry, once the registration is complete this amount is refunded!

Configuring the bot?

Once the registration is complete, the Ginabot will send you a private message via discord.
In one of these messages you will find a link, where you can configure the bot.
Clicking on the link, will bring you to your personal Ginabot setting page. Don't worry no steem Keys are required!

General Setting:

This one is simply. You can choose your preferred frontend: for me as you can see it is busy.org. You can choose out of 8 frontend. When you do click on a link of a post in a notification, you will be redirected to this page via the chosen frontend.

Basic

Here the magic starts :)
In Basic you can configure the following options:

• Comments: Does the Ginabot need to inform you if you wrote a comment or received a comment. Me personally I am only interested if I do receive a comment, I know when I wrote one.
• Transfer: Here you can configure if you transferred steem or SBD or received it.
• Delegation: Here you can set up, if you want to get a notification if someone decided to delegate some power to you or the way around if these changed the delegation.
• Rewards: In the next option you can ask Gina, to write a resume each day, week or month about your rewards. You can set it up for curation, author and producer (witness) rewards.

Here it gets really interesting!

Mentions

Do you want to know if somebody mentions you in a post or comment? Gina will take care if that.
Or are you interested if somebody mentions another Steem account in their posts. Nor problems, just add the name and Gina again will do all the work for you! As you can see, I did set it up so that I also am informed if somebody mentions our @sbcbot.

This feature is more powerful than you could think of. This way we discovered that a steem account will blindly stealing post from @cicbar! He did mention me in his post, and I was informed that I was mentioned again in a post from an unknown author to me!
It was a Gina notification which did trigger us!!!

Resteem

Were you lucky enough to get resteemed? Will Gina knows it and will let you know.

Follow

Don't we all want to know if somebody starts to follow us, or even if someone is tired of our shitty posts and decided to unfollow our beloved account!
Well you can configure this here!

Votes

Interest in getting information about the up or down votes your posts get? Well this is the place to be.
If you do get a lot of upvotes, I would advice not to use it. It will fire some many notifications that all the other information will get snowed under!

New posts

This can be vital for some. Do you want to get notified if your friends or favorite authors have created a new great post? Well configure it here.
I would not place to many accounts in here, otherwise the notifications will get crowded again!
As you can see, I only have 5 accounts, where I do want to get a notification about. The other I will find in my feed!

In this section you can also blacklist people or set up a word watch. This last feature will give you notification each time an article or comment is written where this word is used. So be careful with it!

Maxi

The last section of the configuration panel.
You can add tags here. So each time an article is written with one of the specified tags, you can get a notification.
In this section there are also some setting which could be handy if you are a witness.

Conclusion

The ginabot is a great tool/bot/app. Whatever you want to call it. But use it smartly, by setting up to many notification it will ruin the user experience!
