What is Lean Manufacturing?

                                                       

  We've all heard those intriguing words tossed across the room in business strategy meetings or on job postings, "lean manufacturing."  But what is lean manufacturing.   We define Lean as a continuous improvement strategy that a company embarks on to maximize customer value and minimize waste.  The term "Lean" was first used in the book The Machine That Changed the World by James Womack.  A lean organization focuses on providing complete value or Value added activities to their customers while systematically eliminating waste or Muda as it is called in the "Lean" world.  Here's a fun video that may help.
