What The Hell Is A Digital Marketing 'Foundation'?

Yeah, I know.  It sounds made up.   It is!    . . . Sorta.

Most people know what digital marketing is - or a least have a vague idea.  Those who are familiar with the industry understand the concepts of a quality website, email marketing, social media engagement, etc.  THEN, there are those of us who work in the industry every day.  We see the big picture and know how digital marketing plans are laid out.

The Basic Concepts

As an SEO Specialist, I see the big picture and decide to focus my efforts on the beginning stages of a digital marketing plan.  The foundation on which all other marketing efforts can build off of.   Think about it.   You could have the most amazing website, but is it being found online (by more than just your family or close acquaintances)?  You could generate buzz about your business through social media, but are you able to convert visitors into clients?  How about when business slows down . . . do you know how to decipher what isn't working on your website and/or marketing efforts?  To me, securing a solid foundation for digital marketing is the key to success.

What To Do Next

Take important steps to make sure that Google finds your website/content.  Evaluate your competition and learn what you need to do to reach page 1 so searchers visit your website.  Implement techniques on your website to engage searchers and help them decide to do business with you.  Get access to your website data (and other digital marketing efforts) and discover what's working - and what's not.

Personally, I "geek-out" on data, have fun with the (ever changing) puzzle that is Google, and get immersed in website visitor behavior.  I will be sharing more details and explanations related to digital marketing foundations in upcoming posts.
