Interview with Layer Protocol team ($LRX)

How would you describe the main pillars of the project?

The main pillars of Layer are:

  • The reputation protocol

  • Master nodes for computation of reputation scores

  • Identity

-Governance

About the team and supporters, what are your strengths?

The Layer team has experience at Y Combinator, Lyft, Samsung, Fitbit, and Stanford. Founder Euwyn Poon is entrepreneur, lawyer and software engineer who has been involved in the blockchain industry for 5 years. In 2014, he co-founded Delta, one of the first projects to offer interest-bearing Bitcoin accounts, which was backed by Y Combinator, Initialized Capital and Winklevoss Capital. He has spoken at CoinSummit London and Inside Bitcoins and has been featured on Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Forbes, Vice, CNBC and Fox Business News.

Layer is advised and supported by large group of supporters, which include the founders of Origin Protocol and Ink Protocol.

Thinking about the future, do you have any roadmap with relevant upgrades or partnerships?

Layer is in talks with a variety of centralized and decentralized platforms for partnerships. The roadmap calls for token generation in Q3, and the reputation protocol completed in Q1 2019. Layer has partnered with Spin (North America’s leading electric mobility company) and Origin Protocol.

What’s the added value of Layer Protocol in comparison with other competitors ?

Layer Protocol has a very focused goal of decentralizing user reputation. The protocol is designed around computing reputation at scale. Unlike other protocols, which are overly prescriptive in requiring adoption of multiple sub-protocols, Layer aims makes retrieving and contributing reputation as easy as an API call. This enables Layer to be easily adopted by both off-chain centralized platforms and Dapps.

What are the use cases you are looking to cover?

The main use case of Layer is to provide anyone renting out an asset or service with the ability to assess the risk and liability of a potential renter. Layer will establish itself to be as vital as a credit score check.

How are you aiming to provide scalability to your service?

Reputation computation is complex, and Layer relies on master nodes compute reputation scores. The LRX token drives Layer’s token economy, and requires master nodes to put up a stake in order to compute scores and earn LRX for doing so.

Evaluation of the current scenario for Layer Protocol and the blockchain industry.

Layer is uniquely positioned to cater to both existing, non-blockchain applications, and the next generation of DApps that will be built on the blockchain.
