The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) will launch this year's Fraternity Campaign in Brasilia on the theme "Fraternity and Overcoming Violence". The ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the CNBB, at 905 Norte, at 10am.

Also on Wednesday, Cardinal Sergio da Rocha, Metropolitan Archbishop of Brasília and president of the CNBB, will present the campaign during the celebration of the Mass in the Cathedral at 7:30 p.m.

Created in 1962, the campaign is presented every year on Ash Wednesday, when Lent begins, a 40-day period in which the Catholic Church invites the faithful to practice prayer and fasting until Palm Sunday on the day 25th March.

According to the CNBB, during the ceremony the message of Pope Francis will be read during the Lenten period, as well as the life histories of people who struggle to overcome violence.

"Overcoming violence, in view of a culture of peace, requires facing the reality of exclusion. Without social justice there will be no overcoming of violence, "said Father Luis Fernando da Silva, executive coordinator of the Fraternity Campaigns
