Conor McGregor punches hard but not as hard as this kid!

Death Touch

In MMA circles, Conor McGregor is renowned for his punching power. With small 4 ounce gloves, Conor’s left hand has been described as "The Touch of Death", most notably by Firas Zahabi trainer to some of the best fighters in the world including George St Pierre.

McGregor is undoubted a striking phenomenon in MMA.

OMG Power

However, when it comes to sparring in 16 ounce boxing gloves it seems like Conor power may not translate as well. According to Paulie Mallinagilli, Conor McGregor has "above power but not 'oh my god" power."

The 16 Ounce Punching Machine

Mallinagilli has been sparring with McGregor ahead of the Irishman's mega fight with Floyd Mayweather. While Mallinagilli rates McGregor as having "good power", he cites relative unknown Amir Imam as the hardest puncher he has sparred with 16 ounce gloves.

I sparred Amir Imam for a year of my life... and literally some of the right hands that I took from that kid... had sent a shockwave from the top of my head to the bottom of my toes.

This revelation comes as a surprise given that Imam is smaller than McGregor. Imam fights at 140lb whereas McGregor is the UFC’s 155lb Champion

Imam must have some power.

Power or No Power...

Regardless, it will take more than just power to beat Floyd Mayweather… “OMG Power” or not McGregor will need to catch Mayweather clean and consistency enough to put him down. So far 49 have tried and 49 have failed….
