Exactly why James DeGale vacated is unclear though people are saying that James did so to avoid facing his mandatory challenger Jose Uzcategui[27-2-0] and some are saying James is retiring though in a statement from James he has said:

"I’m in the final phase of my career where I have a few good years left where I can be involved in massive fights"
"My team have been working very hard behind the scenes and we’ve got some very big and exciting news to announce soon."

Quite what James has planned is unclear, perhaps he will be moving up a weight class to rematch Badou Jack[22-1-3] at light-heavyweight or maybe he goes down to middleweight to face Billy Joe Saunders[26-0-0] or maybe he will just hang up the gloves as injuries have been a concern for James DeGale for a while and he has already achieved so much by winning world titles as well as an olympic gold medal.
