Christian Cherchi, who is the promoter of heavyweight contender Carlos Takam has told media that they are undergoing negotiations with Dereck Chisora for a potential showdown in May which would take place on UK soil.

Takam was last seen in the ring when he took a short notice fight against heavyweight superstar Anthony Joshua, where Joshua successfully defended his WBA, IBF and IBO titles by stopping Takam in the tenth round in front of an exciting 78,000 spectators at the Principality stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Takam was a handful for Joshua before being stopped in the tenth round after being stunned by a Joshua flurry of punches, however many felt that the stoppage was premature.

Dereck Chisora was last seen in November after an upset loss to European champion Agit Kabayel which went the distance. Chisora was approached by David Haye this year for Chisora to test Haye's protege Joe Joyce, however the fight didn't take place as both parties couldn't agree on terms due to financial issues.

Cherchi told Sky Sports "At the Okolie-Chamberlain fight, I proposed this fight, he likes the deal. Now it's only speaking about the money and see if everybody is on board.

"If Chisora wants the fight, I don't think he will have a problem doing the fight. I will definitely speak with [Hearn] this week."

Takam also seems to fancy a Chisora showdown and said:

"Yeah, I'm very excited," said Takam.

"My first time here was a very good experience. Yes, Chisora is a good fight. The guy is not easy to fight. He is more crazy, but a good guy. I'm very calm, he is very crazy. It's going to be an exciting fight for me."
