Bowes Renos ~ Seaside Home: Exterior

In February 2021 we bought a Home near the Sea in Nova Scotia, Canada and completed a full renovation in 7 months.

The whole Bowes family was involved in this huge undertaking directed by @hendrix22 (The Certified Expert in Home renovations and innovations.). Oma, Opa, his Sister and Brother in Law, even the children took part. It was a year of bonding and creating beauty.

Fast forward to now: The Seaside home has officially sold and we're moving to a Farmhouse on 34 acres. (YASSSSSS I KNOW RITE!! Dream come true.)

I decided to take these last few days before we leave to show off all the work we did here. This blog is about the Exterior.

From 1980's large, painted cedar shake, light blue foundation, and dual chimneys to beautiful Cape Cod style shake, a dark grey foundation, 2 new decks, 2 new exterior doors, a peak for the basement entrance, and a 5 foot sliding door.

Let's Get Gritty

I'm sure you noticed that absolute monstrosity of a chimney...have you ever seen one bigger? Say goodbye!

Look up, I mean wayyyyy up. That speck up there, that's my husband...I was on emergency standby with the phone pre-dialled to 911.

Let's not even talk about the 'scaffolding'...no seriously, don't even look there.

The last block took 7 people and a lot of fuckery innovation to remove....

The metal chimney was removed as well, there it is on the lawn, and yes we did keep it, and yes that yellow ladder is performing an extraordinary feat. I think the scaffolding is actually looking safe in comparison! Let's not talk about the ladder...

Stripping off the Old Cedar Shake

It was a job that anyone could do, but torturous! We all took turns with the crowbars large and small (@hendrix22 performed his acrobatics up high once again).

It took months as we stripped one side at a time, and then the men wrapped and re-sided it with cape cod style cedar shake.

Getting around the electric and internet wires, the vents and behind the propane tanks were very challenging to say the least.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the process of renovating the exterior of the Seaside Home!

I know one thing is for sure, we never want to see one of these again:
