The headphones of the HyperX Cloud Orbit S

The headphones of the HyperX Cloud Orbit S have a head tracking system that enables you to adjust the sound to the movements of the player. This ensures greater involvement and tactical advantages in competitive games, combined with the excellent quality of the typical HyperX line devices positional audio.

In fact, the Cloud Orbit S takes advantage of Waves ' technology, which can recreate a sound scene that appears realistic with a sound that is always consistent with the scene and not dependent on the player's head movement.

The HyperX Cloud Orbit S integrates the electronics that perform the head tracking calculations and a battery that even using the classic 3.5 mm jack makes it possible to use the functionality. The range of estimates is 10 hours.

We tested the HyperX Cloud Orbit S with CS: GO at Computex and we have to say that the level of involvement is remarkable, even though this feature is not essential for a game with these features. If an explosion of grenade takes place on our right and we turn our gaze in that direction, we will hear the explosion coming before us. The player, moving his head, can thus gain competitive advantages by obtaining additional sound data from the game scene. It should be noted, however, that these features are more functional in combination with VR and similar technologies are actually implemented in Oculus Quest's sound system.

The Orbit S cloud works outside of the games as well. For example, if you watch a movie trailer and you're in a swivel chair, when the chair faces the monitor, you'll hear the sound coming in front of you, but if you turn on yourself, the sound will come from your shoulders, as if the trailer was actually transmitted by a real-world physical object. In all these cases, the operation of the Cloud Orbit S is flawless, and the positional changes, managed by software based on the system's tracking data based on the internal gyroscope of the headphones, are perfectly perceptible. The Waves technology is also present on the new products from Dell at Computex.

In addition, the Cloud Orbit S is the first headphones equipped with magnetic planar drivers patented by Audeze. These are 100 mm planar magnetic diaphragms and gamers are addressed with frequency response ranging from 10 Hz to 50 KHz.

The gestural control features of the Orbit S were first shown at Computex. By nodding, for example, it is possible to reload the weapons (or open the map) and only by tilting the head dodge the blows to the right and left. In practice, each gesture is associated with a button. In the other operating system programs, these can also be used, such as shortcuts in personal productivity programs and photo editing, just to give a few examples. The Cloud Orbit S software then makes it possible to make a series of adjustments, including the sensitivity of the tracking system. In addition, it allows verifying how the head movements are recognized in real time.

For the first time, Audeze and Waves technologies are implemented in player headphones, whereas for audiophiles they had previously only been present in the earphones. Lastly, we would like to point out that another HyperX Cloud product, or Cloud II, won the award at the EHA Awards as the best Gaming Headset.
