Grasshopper is a herbivorous insect of the suborder of Caelifera in Orthoptera order. This insect has an antenna that is almost always shorter than its body and also has a short ovipositor.
These insects are generally winged, although their wings are sometimes unavailable to fly. The female locusts are generally larger than the male mantis.
Grasshoppers usually have large eyes, and are colored to blend into their surroundings, usually a combination of brown, gray or green. In some species male have bright colors on their wings that they use to attract females.
Grasshoppers can be found almost everywhere in the world, except for the cold areas near the North and South poles.
In Islamic Religion, Grasshopper is one of the two animals that when it first dies is still lawful to eat, along with Fish.
