Good day Steemians! Today I want to talk about something very important, something that people need to know and understand, especially this time of year here in the Philippines. It's about FIRE PREVENTION AWARENESS.

It's SUMMER TIME. Some of us enjoys this time of year. Some enjoys the sun. Some love going to beaches and stay under the sun.

But because of the soaring temperature, the risks of fire is high.

Because of that, some Organizations makes sure that the people understand and be prepared and knowledgable about Fire Prevention Awareness.

THIS YEAR'S THEME

"Ligtas na Pilipinas ang ating hangad,
Pag-iingat sa sunog, sa sarili ipatupad"

It intends to promote awareness to the people, that we need to be much more careful to prevent fires. There are a lot of Organization who help the people in case of fire and provide prompt response, but it is important to reduce the risks and prevent it. One more important thing that people need to know is the FIRE SAFETY TIPS.

"PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE"

PREVENTING FIRE

  1. Make sure that every member of the family know the emergency hotlines:
    Emergency Hotline - 911
    Bureau of Fire Protection - (02) 426-0219, (02) 426-3812, (02) 426-0246
  2. Unplug your appliances when not in use.
  3. Never leave candles on lit. Make sure to blew out the fire before going to bed.
  4. If you are cooking, do not leave it.
  5. Be knowledgable on how to turn on and off the LPG gas.
  6. Always check or inspect all the electrical wirings.

IN CASE OF FIRE

  1. Every member of the family or household should know where the FIRE EXIT is.
  2. Teach every member of the household how to use a FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
  3. If you think that the fire is still small or still under control, you can use clothes, curtains or blanket to stop it from spreading. Just wet the cloth and cover the fire.
  4. If smoke or fire is blocking the exit door, stay inside a room and close the door.
  5. If you can go near a window, let a hand out and wave to signal for help. It is better to wave something bright or shiny like flashlight.
  6. Cover your nose and mouth with a wet cloth to avoid suffocating.
  7. Every member of the household should agree on where the meeting place is. Should be at safe distance.

These are some of the safety tips that we need to know and understand to prevent fire. Remember that there people and organizations who's willing to help and provide prompt response.

Some people didn't realize that majority of the fire incidents were caused by people and it is not a natural cause. Make sure to follow all the tips and guidelines to be safe all the time.

Always remember:

THE SAFETY OF OUR PROPERTY AND THE LIVES OF OUR LOVED ONES IS IN OUR HANDS
