I don't understand why the sexuality of Hang the DJ was such a problem. Earlier episodes of Black Mirror have had way more sex, and more graphic sex for that matter.
The pilot episode is about a man being Blackmailed into having sex with a pig.
"Fifteen Million Merits" has a character get drafted into the porn industry.
"The Entire History of You" has an themes of adultery and an extended conversation about the merits of masturbating to old videos of sex vs having sex.
"Be Right Back" featured sex scenes between a woman and a robot duplicate of her dead husband.
"The Waldo Moment" had tons of raunchy humor, including images of the titular cartoon character's penis.
One of the stories from "White Christmas" involves a club that helps it's members hook up with women and watches via video. Plus that one also has an adultery storyline.
"Shut Up and Dance", has lots of sexual elements (I can't say them without giving away some of the best twists of the episode).
"San Junipero" has lesbian sex scenes, partial nudity and references to BDSM.
Then there's "Men Against Fire" where we see elaborate sex fantasies complete with duplicates of the same nude woman.
Not to be rude but have you seen the rest of Black Mirror? Sorry but I just can't fathom how "Hang the DJ" of all things was too sexual for you.
Anyway I had similar assessments of some of the other episodes. In particular I felt Black Museum was an ill-conceived attempt to recreate the brilliant interconnected stories of White Christmas. I'm three reviews in to my series of reviews, you can check them out here:
