Huawei to Launch Cryptocurrency App for its latest phones

Chinese telecommunications firm and smartphone maker, Huawei has announced a partnership with BTC.com, which is owned by mining giant Bitmain to launch a mobile app for tracking cryptocurrency mining and block information and also providing a digital wallet service.

The Chinese tech giant would start offering Chinese users access to a Bitcoin wallet via their native AppGallery. While speaking on the cryptocurrency app, Alejandro de la Torre BTC.com’s vice president for business operations said that smartphone users now have the opportunity to download Bitcoin wallets on their devices. He also disclosed in a separate interview with Bloomberg that, “It’s a good opportunity to tap into the Chinese market. The use of cashless payments with apps is very big and the traditional banking system is lacking, so there’s a good use case for crypto payments to grow there.”

At present, Huawei’s AppGallery is only available for users through a pre-installed version on its latest devices. However, the new cryptocurrency tracking and mining app will be launched for older model devices in the second quarter of this year. In that regard, Huawei’s determination to improve its digital wallet support is still a remarkable gesture which will most likely open up the cryptocurrency service to the large Asian customer base.

This Huawei’s AppGallery is coming at a time when China and some other Asian countries have banned the Android’s Google Play Store and some sections of the Apple’s iTunes to effectively limit the ability of cryptocurrency wallets to perform optimally. Hence, this Huawei new development will circumvent the ban. Irrespective of the ban, public interest cryptocurrency is still on the rise and this new device would likely have a big impact on the Chinese market.

In March 27th, there were rumors that Huawei may be making plans to incorporate its smartphones with blockchain technology that will allow an instant conversion of fiat to cryptocurrency. The device would make the exchange of USD on mobile devices quick and efficient.
