Antminer S9 January 2018 Review and Test

I bought my Antminer S9 in November and ordered the 21. - 31. January Batch.
I was lucky and the miner arrived one month earlier before Christmas at customs but I had to wait until New Year. I am running it now for 3 days and it was kind of slow and hot and very loud.

The average Hashrate was 12 - 13.5 TH/s and the Chip Temp was over 90°C.

Because I don't have a Garage or similar I have to run it in my apartment. The room temperature is 38°C with open windows in January.
After a few Youtube videos, I decided to put the Antminer S9 into a Cooler with aluminum ventilation tubes. It was still too loud. I put some carton boxes with holes at the end of both tubes and I silence it from about 70 dB to 60 dB. It's better but not good enough.

How did I get 15 - 16 TH/ s?
At first, I pointed the hot exhaust tube to the window to get the heat out. But nothing happens.

Now I suck in the cool air from outside (I have to be careful with moisture) and the Chip temperature dropped to 70°C and the Fan Speed (r/min) dropped from 5,640 to now 4800. My Hashrate is going up :-)

The reward:
I an with BTC.com Pool and I got Yesterday 0.01384469 BTH ($35 or 29€) (BTH 2100€ / $2500) not bad. I bought the miner for $1415 + $105 the PSU now it is around $3000 if it is available.

  1. I will build a wood MDF Box for the miner and I will put some insulated ventilation tubes to it.
  2. I will put one Antminer S9 into an Aquarium filled with cooled Mineral Oil. No noise and higher efficiency.
Coming soon :-) ... stay tuned.
