Jamaican police say that people smugglers turn to Bitcoin.

Technology has been advancing in a super fast way, giving humans a lot of options to communicate, acquire goods and services, among other things, however, it has been used by criminals who take advantage of their advantages to carry out their misdeeds. A clear example of this is the existence of the trafficking of white, a very dark and horrible business, which leaves profits of more than $ 150 billion, the fight against this type of crime has been very strong, but there have been remarkable advances , that is why the Jamaican police in a statement assure that Bitcoin is being used by these criminals to make it more difficult to capture them and thus keep their profits safe.

The investigations show that more than 45 million people have been victims of what is nowadays called "modern slavery". The way of torture is not only based on sexual exploitation, they are also forced into forced marriages, organ harvesting, forced abortions for the collection of stem cells, heavy work, among others.

Jamaica is taking human trafficking seriously, especially in light of the fact that they were on an international watch list for the horrific practice. The country has managed to withdraw from the list after recently rescuing more than 70 victims and convicting four human traffickers. At the anti-money laundering / anti-terrorist financing conference in New Kingston, law enforcement stressed the need to hit people smugglers "in the pocket", but such actions are increasingly difficult.

Jamaican law enforcement is talking to law enforcement agencies and global banks on how to track money for human trafficking. The main current problem for the police is that the money trail is increasingly difficult to follow, since people smugglers are now using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Police superintendent Carl Berry says:

"They are asking for payments in bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies, a new factor that creates problems for law enforcement officers."
