Lighting network is off to a good start with over 100 nodes and 465 channels setup in the space of 2 weeks and progress and a big step towards the proper functioning of Segwit which will greatly reduce transaction times.
Already a purchase has been made on Lighting of a VPN by Reddit user btc_throwaway1337 who purchased a VPN router from Torguard payment was instant with no fees.

Lighing is off to a great start and i think is one of the more signifacant develpments for bitcoin in recent times and if adoption continues at this rate 2018 could be poised for major adoption.
