With 60F days happening, I decided to put most of the cocoons I harvested with @ryulincoln outside. Using some old disposable food trays and the 3d printed homes @whangster79 made for me.
I was impressed how many cocoons each tray could hold. Probably about a hundred each. I placed them outside near the bee boards I built for them.
Since my room is in the 70s the Bees would start to hatch while working with them inside. Since the cocoons have been in the fridge at 45F for the last few months. I decided to keep them chilled until I was ready to work with the cocoons. Using a beer mug that was in my freezer for an hour I placed the bag of cocoons in there to keep them cold. I take them out as I place the cocoons in the trays.
It may take a few days for them to emerge. So I placed the trays in safe places for them to emerge without issue.
The 3d printed homes were used as well. I placed them in the bee house I built last year. Seperate from the bee cubbies.
As we get progressively warmer days, the greater the chance of the cocoons opening. I'm checking on them every day at the moment. But so far just Bees from the 2x4 home have emerged.
