SteemChurch Telos/ Beatitudes/ Where is your Treasure?

Dear Community

A beautiful biblical verse accompanies the memo of sending hearts to parishioners:

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:21

Sirknight told me: can you put this verse in the memo when you send the hearts, if there is another one that works best?

I think it is the perfect verse to show that what we do here, we do with the strength of the heart. A heart released to give will always be strong and vigorous.

What does it mean, where is your treasure, there will your heart be?

In my opinion, saying that our heart is in something means that this something is what defines our priorities and our behavior in the face of everyday situations.

In this way, if we want to find where our heart is, it is enough to perceive where or where we place the majority of our strengths and our greatest portion of time.

The call of Jesus, in this way, confronts us for a decision making that is exactly where we will keep our treasure, whether in the things of God, or in earthly things. If we observe the Gospel preached by Jesus it is possible to identify what the things of the heavens are and what the things of the earth are.

** The things of heaven, which is the same as saying about the things of God, are those that have to do with caring for the poor, marginalized and forgotten of society, which the text of Matthew 25 makes very clear When he says that doing something to the little ones is doing God himself. In that sense, empathy and mercy is the way of life of everyone who decides to keep their treasures in the things of God. **

On the other hand, in relation to earthly things, it is always important to remember that the earth here has nothing to do with the planet, first with a system and a way of life. To be terrain, in that sense, is to live a life that is directed only towards oneself, moved by individualism and without caring for others. In this way, individualism and selfishness are the marks of all those who decide to keep their treasure in earthly things.

For its part, that place where our treasure is not in secret so that others have no way of knowing where we keep it. Lao Tzu already said that "The soul has no secrets that behavior does not reveal." This teaching, then, serves as a criterion for the evaluation of all coadunations between discourse and practice. In other words, much beyond discourse, it is the behavior that tells us where our treasure is and, at the same time, it makes it visible to all who observe and are attentive to our way of life.

It is important to remember that the shout of our behavior is always greater than the emphasis of our words and that our effort must always be, like Jesus, to live a life in which our practice manifests our discourse and our speech is a reflection of our practice.
