My mother told me to be home by 9 PM. I was working at a grocery store on the next block. My boss kept me there until closing this night. I walked back to our apartment at 1082 Rogers Avenue. My mother met me at the door with a belt. She ignored me as I tried to tell her that I was closing the store. She beat me and grounded me for a month. I told her that I had to let my boss know that I could not work for a month. When I explained what happened, my boss walked back home with me, while his partner watched the store. My boss explained the truth to my mother. My sentence was lifted, but mom could not take the beating back. This is another New York City story.
