The wild westernmost beach

The weather is finally getting warmer, and fortunatly I live in a country that is filled with great beaches. And since BeachWednesday contest is alive, time to feature one of them here! If you are unaware of the contest, you can check the latest edition in @uwelang's blog here!

This beach is called Praia da Ursa, and is relatively close to Lisboa; it is probably the wildest beach this close to the capital!

Praia da Ursa is considered the westernmost beach in continental europe! It's located close to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of the continent, among high cliffs. There are no beach supports, no bars, no signs of human presence apart from the ones who venture downhill to enjoy it!

The name of the beach, Ursa (translates to Bear in english), supposedly comes from the sharp rock formations near the sand that resemble a momma bear and her cubs. Honestly, not even with my big imagination I can picture a bear there... but who cares, the beach is awesome!

It's a very steep walk down there from where this photo was taken, and that's probably why this beach is never crowded, despite being so close to a touristic point. Normally people come here for the photos, but its as near as they go.

The chance of being able to be in the sand surrounded by the high cliffs is well worth the trip for me! Few people is just an added bonus.

The cold water feels great after the walking down here. Don't expect a calm sea, the atlantic ocean is rarely gentle in these parts.

And the sunset here is another show not to be missed.

Despite loving the beach, I don't go there that often. But I'm guessing it won't be long before I visit her again!
