Getting ready to have a braai
Normally we get together as a family on Sunday afternoon and have a barbecue. The photo shows the area where the log fire is made, with the grill on top.
The get together is a fun time with tales told of the past weeks highs and lows, obviously it is also a time to share a glass of wine or have a beer or two.
On the left is a ships wheel from the AM 2 . The Netherlands had a fleet of whale hunting boats, called "catchers" these boats would harpoon the whales marking the whale with a spiked flag with the number of the "catcher" which shot the whale. The factory ship , the Willem Barands, would then load the whale on board and process it further.
Fortunately the whaling industry was stopped and the catchers were disassembled, in Cape Town,I was fortunate to salvage the AM2's wheel, which I restored. The whaling was stopped early in 1970.
