AURORA DAY! "Have you ever wonder where Aurora Province got its name?" (Baler, Aurora short history)

I've got some interesting stories to tell. Hang on... First, what is Aurora Day?

Well, it's the yearly commemoration of Aurora Province's foundation as an independent province. Festive celebration usually takes place every 13th - 19th of February.
Formerly, Aurora (Baler) is just one of the municipalities of the vast Quezon Province. Obviously, Quezon Province got its name from former Philippine President Manuel Luis Quezon.
Now, where in heaven Aurora got its name? Of course, from none other than President Quezon's First Lady, Doña Aurora Aragon Quezon.

I hate to tell tragic stories but I have to for the sake of history. Did you know that widowed Doña Aurora was killed in an ambush? She was on her way to attend an inauguration in the town of Baler when a group of armed men showered them with gun fires. A historical marker was erected in Baler-Bongabon Road to honor the former First Lady.

Also, right in front of the Provincial Capitol Building stands Doña Aurora's statue — like an adoring sentinel looking after the people's welfare.

On the lighter side of the story, what can you expect during the week-long Aurora Day celebration? Of course, the 8 town/municipalities were on a tough competitions challenging each other in every battle — band, street dancing, beauty pageant, arc & float decoration, and many more!

Did you know that once in my active highschool life, I became an enthusiastic street dancer participant? Yep, and our school made it flying colors!
