1. Proximitatea
În primul rând pentru că este aproape. Imediat cum termini cu Câmpia Panoniei, a.k.a Ungaria, ai ajuns în Austria frate. Practic de la “prietenii” maghiari încolo, ajungi în Europa de Vest. Îl lași pe despotul Orban în spate, te dezici de teleormăneanul Dragnea și uiți de Putin. Bine ai venit în lumea civilizată. Dacă n-ai ieșit din România în viața ta, urcă-te în prima navetă de Viena și vezi dracului cum arată o civilizație la care tu poți doar să speri; să speri că poate copiii tăi vor avea parte de ea.
1. Proximity
Firstly because it’s close for you. As soon as you finish driving through the Fields of Panonia, a.k.a Hungary, you are in Austria bro. Practically, a little bit further from the hungarian “friends”, you are in Western Europe. You can leave behind the despotic Orban, dismiss the peasant Dragnea and forget about Putin. Welcome to the civilised world. If you never got out of Romania before, hop onto the first commutee bus that goes to Vienna and see for yourself how a civilisation you only dream about, looks like.

2. Banii dați
În al doilea rând pentru că de banii pe care îi dai, la Sinaia sau Predeal, poate apuci să faci 5 coborâri. Dacă e zăpadă. Aici, cam oriunde te-ai opri de la Salzburg încolo, dai de-un telescaun la care nu stai mai mult de 5 minute într-o zi foarte aglomerată, care să te ducă pe un pisc de munte de unde să poți să-ți dai drumu pentru a-ți face damblaua. Și deși poate prețul (când vei face paritatea în lei) îți va părea mai mare, dacă transformi nervii, timpul pierdut și ghiolbanii în bani, vei vedea că este mult mai ieftin aici.
2. Value for money
Second of all because for quite the same amount of money you would pay in Sinaia or Predeal (if there is snow), here you will surely ski/snowboard inffinetly more. In Austria, pretty much anywhere you would stop after Salzburg, you can find a chairlift to take you on some mountain peak from where you can do your thing. Usually you won’t have to wait more than 5 minutes to get on, that if there is a crowded day. And eventhough the price for the lifts may seem a little bit higher than in Romania, if you count the nerves, the lost time and all the idiots on the slopes, you will do the math and see it’s cheaper here.

3. Șansele să nu găsești zăpadă
Sunt egale cu 0. Sunt mai multe șanse să te blochezi de câtă zăpadă pică uneori pe șosele.
Practic aici, dacă alegi o zonă care se bucură de prezența unui ghețar, te vei da în toate pozițiile posibile. Uneori până în mai-iunie, în funcție de temperaturi.
Spre comparație, la noi în țară trebuie să vânezi zilele cu zăpadă, să alergi ca nebunul pe DN1 pentru a prinde powpow-ul cela de a căzut aseară, să te rogi la Dumnezeu ca la Poiană sau la Sinaia să nu bată vântul sau ca încălzirea globală să lase precipitațiile să se transforme în fulgi de zăpadă.
3. Chances of not catching any snow
Are equal to zero. There are more chances you’ll get stuck on the highway because of the amounts of snow falling. Practically, if you will choose a place that hosts one or more glaciers, you will ski/snowboard your heart out, sometimes up to may-june, depending on the temperatures.
As a comparison, in Romania you will have to hunt for that snow that fell last night, drive like Cruella to catch the powpow that will last maximum 24 hours, pray to God that the wind will not stop the cable transport in Poiana Brașov or Sinaia and that global warming will let the precipitations transform in snow flakes.

4. Infrastructură montană
În Austria m-am dat în: Stubai, Solden, Mayrhofen, Flachau și Zell am Ziller (unde mi-am plesnit mâna în 3 locuri). Mâine sper să încerc și Hochzillertal și Fugen. Peste tot, acolo unde coboram, exista un transport pe cablu cel puțin, care să te ducă ori de unde ai plecat, ori pe un alt vârf de munte. Cam toate domeniile schiabile acumulează un minim de 200 de kilometri de pârtii, iar asta în cel mai nasol caz. De obicei austriecii au ajuns de mult la performanțe de invidiat, precum 300-500 km de pârtie, conectați ori pe un sigur masiv, ori pe mai multe. Există locuri unde poți coborî la zeci de kilometri depărtare de unde ai lăsat mașina.
Pe aici, oamenii își rup membrele în fiecare zi. Majoritatea pe pârtia Harakiri. 78% înclinație. Dacă apuci să pici, nu te mai oprești până jos. În fiecare zi, elicopterul de urgență care se află parcat în mijlocul stațiunii face 2-3 curse pentru a ridica răniții. Este micuț, frumușel, roșu și agil. Pilotul este un zeu. Să reușești să găsești locuri de aterizare prin munții ăștia, e cu siguranță greu.
La naiba, eu abia am reușit să aterizez drona fără să dau în vreun puradel.
Cabanele de pe munte, barurile, pizzeriile și apres skiurile sunt aprovizionate blană deși sunt situate la altitudini de la 2000m în sus. Băutura este gârlă și bună. Atât!
4. Mountain facilities
In Austria I have tried the following ski resorts: Stubai, Solden, Mayrhofen, Flachau and Zell am Ziller (where I broke my hand in 3 places there). Tomorrow I hope I’ll try Hochzillertal and Fugen. Everywhere your slope finishes, you will find some cable transport that will take you back from where you came, or to another peak. Almost all serious ski resorts in Austria count at least 200km of slopes. The biggest ones can even go to 500-600km that can be either on one mountain or it connects multiple areas. Sometimes you can even move tens of kilometers away from where you parked your car.
Around here, people break their limbs on a daily basis. In Mayerhofen they usually do this on the Harakiri slope, that has an inclination of 78%. If it happens you fall, then you will not stop until you reach the bottom. Everyday, the beautiful small helicopter that is usually parked in the middle of the resort, picks up 2-3 injured from the middle of the glacier. The pilot must be a god, as running through those mountains, sometimes through fog and winds, requires great skill I suppose. I barely manage to land my drone.
The mountain challets, the pizzerias, bars and apres-skis are very well supplied. Booze is great and plenty.

5. Priveliștile
Probabil cele mai impresionante din câte am trăit. Când soarele este sus, pe cerul senin, când nu ninge și nu este ceață, când ești acolo în vârf și se desfășoară în fața ta peisajul acela etern, al Alpilor, nu mai ai nevoie de yoga, meditație sau psiholog. După ce ți-ai învins teama de cabină, ai învins frigul și ți-ai făcut curaj pentru sporturile de iarnă, ai câștigat.
Austria este o poveste în desfășurare iar pentru cetățenii ei nu am decât respect sincer, deoarece ei au făcut-o așa cum e. Omul sfințește locul.
5. The views
The most impressive I have ever seen. When the Sun is up, on the clear sky, when it is not snowing and the fog cleared out, when you have reached the summit and in front of you, the eternal view of the Alps is developing, you won’t need yoga, meditation or a psichologist. After you killed your fear for the cablecar, after you have conquered the cold and embraced the winter sports, you have won.
Austria is a story still in development and for it’s citizens I only carry sincere respect, because they are the ones that made it as great as it is. Humans are the ones who bless a place.
