When I was living in Mianwali in 2013, I had ever invited my neighbors in our university colony for a tea party. All the guests are wives of my husband’s colleagues, female faculty member and staffs where my husband works.
We did baking pizza and cake together, and -not to forget-off course our main activity; “gupssup”. We discussed many issues, randomly talking including culinary, kids schooling, campus life, movie review, novel review of “Peer-e-Kameel” which was booming at that time. We had also disccussed one of the book in my small corner library, “Culture Shock! Pakistan” by Karin Mittmann, a Germany married with Pakistan and has been living in Pakistan for more then 50 years. There was one interesting part of the book we discussed, that’s about linguistic things. How and in which context Pakistani using the word “ACHA”. At that time I asked my friends to give me demonstration how to pronounce “ACHA” with its variety of meaning and circumstances. Here are the expression of using ACHA.

2013年,当我住在Mianwali(巴基斯坦的一个城市,米亚瓦里,超级热的地方)的时候,我曾邀请过我们大学的邻居参加一个茶话会。

Ach’ha” (That’s fine with me)

  1. “Ach’haa-ách’ha” (I understand)

  1. “Ach’hha?” (really?)

  1. “”Ach’haa!” (how wonderful)

  1. “Aachch’h!” (well!)

  1. “Ach’hhaah!” (I am shocked)

  1. “Ach’ha ách’haa” (don’t say anymore—I know it any well)

  1. “Ach’hah!” (OK)

  1. “Ach’hha?” (that’s all?)

  1. “Aach’ha!” (nothing more to tell, OK then, bye!)
