When I say my art posts on Hive, I either show my work or write a review of an exhibition I went to see myself, but it's been so hot lately that I haven't been able to go to any exhibitions at all, so here's an article that was shared on X.

One of the founding members, Midori Ozaki, graduated from an art college in Japan and went to graduate school in New York, where she took her first class on queer and feminist art. She took her first class on queer and feminist art and learned a gender perspective on art that was not taught at all in Japan.
I was surprised to read this. I was surprised to read that the field of feminist art is so well established that it is taught in classes. I wondered if art universities and art colleges in Japan were offering such courses nowadays.
When I was in college, there was no such thing, but feminism and feminists existed, and I devoured books by Chizuko Ueno, Chikako Ogura, and others at the library.
I think that experience pointed me toward a way of life. But I don't think I would have read those books if I hadn't been interested in them myself.
The exhibition that ran until the other day seemed to show works on a wide range of topics, including the revision of the Criminal Code Sexual Offenses, the definition of feminism in Kojien, and the issues of "comfort women" and transgender rights.

明日少女隊とは、第4波フェミニスト・アクティビストによるアートグループということですが、創設メンバーのひとりの尾崎翠さんという方が日本の美術大学を卒業後ニューヨークの大学院に進学し、そこで初めてクィア＆フェミニスト・アートの授業をとり、日本では全く教わらなかったアートに対するジェンダー的視点を知ったといいます。
私はこれを読んで驚きました。フェミニスト・アートなる分野が、授業になるほど確立されているのかと。日本の芸大、美大では今はそういうのをやっているのだろうかと。
私が大学の頃はそんなものはなくて、でもフェミニズムとかフェミニストというのは存在していて、図書館で上野千鶴子さんや小倉千加子さんなどの本を貪るように読みました。
その体験は私の生き方を指し示してくれたようにも思います。でも自分で興味を持たなければそのような本は読まなかったと思います。
先日まで行われた展覧会では、刑法性犯罪改正、広辞苑のフェミニズムの定義、「慰安婦」やトランスジェンダーの権利の問題など多岐に渡るテーマの作品が展示されていたようです。
