My hubby has never been a fan of this fender guitar he owns until he recently decided to give it a new look. Now he pretty much refuses to put it down! A few weeks ago he got a bug in his bonnet and decided to bring this electric guitar back to life. While I wasn't too happy about the sawdust that infiltrated my home, it was great to see my husband work on something that was helping him to relax.
I have to admit that even I am impressed with the end result! What do you guys think?
This Fender was made back in the 70s and since then it has collected its fair share of dents and scratches, so it was due a good makeover. My husband was never happy with the way it looked but now I think he's found himself a new wife (he he).
Getting it to look the way it does now was quite a mission. First, he had to sand the layers of varnish of paint off to get to the raw wood. This meant that some good elbow grease was needed and this part of the process took a good few days.
Once he got to the raw wood, then it was time to get creative. He scoured the net for some inspiration and settled on this chrysanthemum design. Being a musician, my hubby's talent lie in music so he cannot take credit for the actual artwork. This was done by a friend of his who shall remain anonymous.
We were both worried that we would not like the end result but our first impression was just WOW! We loved the result!
The nest step was to seal the wood and the artwork with a coat of varnish. Hubby did this with the help of our little man.
Once the varnish dried then hubby was super eager to reassemble the guitar. The "old lady" got a fresh set of strings and was instantly tuned.
Little man was the first to jam on the revived guitar.
This was quite the project but well worth the dedication. Our home is alive with the sound of an electric guitar once again and hubby is already keen to work on his next guitar (so stay tuned - no pun intended)!
