This piece actually shares its name with a series of 4 songs that were a part of an EP by Spiritbox(music), where the female vocalists screams about the "Mara" which is an entity that causes nightmares. Further research discovered it was inspired by someone she knew who had sleep paralysis. There is also references in Greek as Mara translates to "Eternally Beautiful", "and "Marah" from the Bible means bitterness - a fountain at the sixth station of the Israelites (Ex. 15:23, 24; Num. 33:8) whose waters were so bitter that they could not drink them. 🖤Mara is the Irish word for “sea”, the Swedish word for “nightmare”, the name of a Hindu goddess of death and a Latvian goddess of earth.
