Several additions to the tour of the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg.

Telling you about St. Petersburg, I mentioned the first building, thanks to which the city of St. Petersburg was founded in 1703. This building was the Peter and Paul Fortress. The fortress was built on an island, surrounded on all sides by water and was originally a bastion of protection.

Because originally only the walls were important, protecting from attack and siege. The gates and bridges were connected with the main territory by the fortress.

And only later inside the fortress construction of cathedrals and architectural constructions began. Under the project of architect Domenico Trezzini in 1712 - 1732 the Peter and Paul Cathedral was built. This cathedral later served as the tomb of Russian emperors from Peter the Great to Alexander III.

On the territory of the fortress there is a monument of the Peter the Great made by modern architect Mikhail Shemyakin. And whoever take Peter for the hand will be given good luck.
