May 13th, 2015 | The Wounded Stoner

''The Wounded Stoner'' is a parody of the Finnish painter Hugo Simberg's known painting ''The Wounded Angel''. The piece of art was made by manipulating a photo of the original painting via Pixlr Photo Editor.

Symbols

  • The background consists of stock photos of cigarettes, cigarette packages and vodka bottles found on Google images.
  • The psychedelic-looking sun is the cover art of the American ska-punk band Sublime's album ''40 Oz. to Freedom'', designed by Opie Ortiz.
  • The police hats on the men carrying the angel through the chaotic background originate from the Estonian stencil-artist Edward von Lõngus' work of art ''Kannahabe ja nõiakütt'' (''Cannabeard and witch-hunter'').
  • The angel also has a joint in his / her mouth.

Meaning

''The Wounded Stoner'' represents the long-lasting fight for and against the legalization of cannabis.
The tobacco-and-alcohol mix in the background symbolises the legality of factors more harmful to one's health (+ the health of other people as well), whilst the angel (having used weed for his / her own recreational spirit or to somewhat heal oneself) got busted by the police just because of it's illegality.

Disclaimer

This piece of art was not created to be sold as a canvas, rather to express one's thoughts and feelings through image manipulation.

The rights and credits to some details of the image belong to above-mentioned Hugo Simberg, Edward von Lõngus and whoever are the authors of the photos found on Google.

The finished manipulation has my signature on it as a sign of my effort and time used on creating this kind of artwork, and also to prevent other people from claiming it to be their own creation.
