Making something useful/beautiful/valuable from something valueless is one of the most attractive aspects of ceramics for me.
Since I collect my own materials, I have the opportunity to turn something like this:
into something like this:
There is a lot of extra work involved processing your own materials, but the payback is in the work that comes from it: you'll have work that doesn't look like anyone else's, from the most basic level it is unique.
